Mr Rahul Patel Talked to Physiotherapists about How to Mitigate Risk When Considering the Knee

Mr Rahul Patel, consultant orthopaedic knee surgeon with London Bridge Orthopaedics (LBO) gave an afternoon talk to a group of physiotherapists from Pure Sports Medicine Physiotherapy (PSM) at their Threadneedle clinic on Tuesday, 11th September. PSM have clinics throughout London including, Chancery Lane, Finsbury Square, Canary Wharf and St Paul’s.

Mr Patel looked at current considerations to mitigate risk when considering the knee, such as rehab / meniscal preservation, root repair, lateral tenodesis, internal brace, SAMBA, MCL integrity.  Issues to consider for rehabilitation: return to sport, time is a key factor, ACL-RSI>56 & quad strength deficit.

Also, the issues considered included: Ligament augmentation and reinforcement.  The issues looked at for patients with an ACL failure included: history, the examination should include amongst other things alignment, X-Rays, graft choices include tunnel replacement.  Associated injuries: PLC, ramp lesions and root tears, PMC and meniscal deficiency.  The merits of braces was also considered as well as anterolateral instability,

CPD certificates were issued to all attendees.
