Self-Pay Private Healthcare at London Bridge Orthopaedics

If you don’t have private medical insurance, you can still access our expert services by paying for your own treatment.

Here’s why many patients are choosing this option:

  • NHS Waiting Times: NHS waiting times may be too long for the treatment you need and you are fed up with being in pain and putting your life on hold.
  • Choice of Surgeon: You may want to see a specific surgeon and ensure that your treatment or operation is carried out by that consultant rather than a trainee or non-specialist.
  • Specialised Treatments: The surgery or treatment you want or need to have might not be available on the NHS.
  • Second Opinions: If you are worried about the care or diagnosis you have received, you may be seeking a second opinion.

Paying for your own treatment at London Bridge Orthopaedics (LBO) comes with many benefits, including swift, expert care tailored to your needs.

Paying for Your Own Treatment

Paying for your treatment at London Bridge Orthopaedics is straightforward and easy. Here’s how it works:

Consultation Fees

The consultation fee varies depending on which consultant you see but typically ranges between £250 to £300 for an initial consultation. For more complex cases, such as second opinions or revision surgeries, longer appointments can be arranged and are usually charged as a double slot.

Consultations can be conducted via video or face-to-face, depending on the severity of your condition and the need for a physical examination.

Imaging Costs

If you need diagnostic imaging (e.g., X-rays, MRI scans), this will be an additional cost. We work closely with local imaging centres to keep these costs as low as possible. For example, an X-ray can cost as little as £230, and an MRI scan can cost as little as £250. Imaging can often be arranged ahead of your clinic visit to save on unnecessary repeat journeys.

Additional Tests and Treatments

Other investigations, such as blood tests, nerve conduction studies, or bone density scans, may be required. These will also be charged separately, so it’s important to be aware of the costs beforehand. Treatments like joint injections will incur additional costs, including a medical fee, a facility fee, and the cost of the drug being injected. Ensure you understand these costs before proceeding.

Surgery Costs

If surgery is required, your consultant or their secretary will provide a specific quote for the costs involved. The overall cost of surgery includes three elements: the surgical fee, the anaesthetic fee, and the hospital fee, with the hospital fee often making up the majority of the total cost. This includes any necessary prostheses, such as a knee or hip joint replacement.

Follow-Up Appointments

After surgery, you will likely need at least one follow-up appointment with your consultant. The cost of follow-up appointments is lower than the initial consultation fee and will be discussed during your first appointment.

Additional Costs

Factor in costs for pre-operative tests, post-operative painkillers, and replacement dressings. You may also need optional recovery aids like ice packs or exercise equipment. Many treatments require physiotherapy sessions, which the physiotherapist charges separately. Your consultant will advise on your needs and recommend suitable physiotherapists.

At London Bridge Orthopaedics, we’re here to ensure you receive the best care possible. If you have any questions or need more information, our friendly team is always ready to help.
